Jonathan Johnson, III

johnson350 Jonathan has played a key part in Utah-based’s impressive rise as one of the nation’s most recognized online retailers.  He began working at Overstock in 2002 as the company’s general counsel and quickly moved up the ranks, serving as president for five years and then acting CEO before transitioning to his current role as chairman of the board in early 2014.  Overstock has nearly 2,000 Utah-based employees. Jonathan is an active member in his community, serving on the governing boards of the Utah Technology Council, the Utah Foundation, the Salt Lake Chamber, the University Hospital Foundation and the Hale Centre Theatre.  In 2014, Utah Business magazine recognized Jonathan for his efforts in leading Overstock to implement sustainable practices and making strides in environmental sustainability and clean air in the community.  Jonathan is active in improving government and protecting individual liberty in Utah.  In 2015, Jonathan served as the co-chairman of the Civics Education Initiative.  He is also the founder of the Right to Try Foundation, a non-profit foundation that provides financial assistance to patients seeking, but unable to afford, experimental drug treatment under Utah’s Right to Try law which Jonathan championed.  Jonathan attended BYU for both his undergraduate and law degrees and has been an adjunct teacher at the BYU law school.  After graduation, he clerked at the Utah Supreme Court and practiced law at two large international law firms before jumping on the business track. He and his wife Courtney are proud parents of five sons.
